yo dudes and duddettes alike,
My nam eis dan and i have come to tell you about the phenomenom that is the Spring Harvest Busking Band.
The band was started by two dudes, myself and a guy called Ben. We both go to the same church and i play bass and he plays guitar. When we went to Springy i took a ukulele and he was sposed to take his guitar. Unfortuneately, being a guitarist, he couldnt be arsed, so i ended up buying a drum from a stall there and he played the ukulele. We decided to start it to raise money for charity, and because our group leaders in iScape challenged us all to perform a random act of kindness. So we took to the roundabout and the skyline and busked.
The first night we tried we made £23, £22 of which was from one guy. A little disheartened we went home, but still went out the next night, thinking as Tescos do: that every little helps.
So we went out busking again; ukulele, drum, ukulele case and chips. We sat in the skyline and busked, playing the one song we knew when someone stopped; not just chucked some money into the case but stopped and listened to us play Amazing grace. Then, she ended up singing for us. This was how the SHBB was formed.
Her name was Twig, and she said she never usually did this kind of thing but it was for a good cause. Later on that night we met up with a few of her mates who walked arouind with us, accosting passers by and holding the collection boxes we nicked from a stand in the skyline, oh and holding the chips which were now stone cold. They, nay, WE all busked and collected until midnight. That night our two day total came to £173.00 (many thanks to Luke for counting the money hehe).
So inspired were we by this totalthat we went out during the day the next day. We played with Twig's mate Tom who had brought his mandollin with him and we made another £50, taking our total up to a staggering £241.00, €1.20, a locker token and a sachet of ketchup. For three days work mind you.
What's more we all realised that there was God's work playing a major part in our busking journey - there are too many so called "coincidences" for there not to have been - and so we still keep in touch and we plan to busk again at the next Spring Harvest (2008).
Now then, why? Because we felt called to. Simple as that. Do you ever get a feeling of something telling you not to go home the usual way or to talk to someone you haven't spoken to in ages? It's like that; we felt God calling us to busk, to raise money and to meet loads of amazing people in the process, and to show others what God can do in people's lives.
